Theo Verbey wrote his orchestral arrangement of the Berg Piano Sonata op.1 in 1984, while he was still a student at the Royal Conservatory in the Hague. Thanks to a recent highly acclaimed recording by Mario Venzago and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the piece is attracting renewed interest.
