Memory of a Shape: Dutch choreographer Regina van Berkel […] has already made choreographies in the Netherlands for companies such as Nederlands Dans Theater and for the Koninkrijksconcert (Kingdom Concert), but in recent years she has chiefly established a reputation abroad. In Germany for instance, where Martin Schläpfer – described by Hans van Manen as one of the biggest talents in the German dance world – invited her to make various works for ballettmainz and, later, Ballett am Rhein in Düsseldorf. One of these pieces is Memory of a Shape, set to music by the Dutch composer Theo Verbey (his Fractal Symphony), which is now receiving its Dutch premiere in this programme. This is a dance-rich, highly rhythmic, en pointe ballet in which the monumental stage decor and superb video images by Dietmar Janeck also play an important role.
