Alban Berg (arr. Theo Verbey): Piano Sonata Op. 1 in Helsinki

All music tells a story, but the best music tells more than one. Prokofiev wrote his Sixth Symphony in the aftermath of World War Two, though it’s far from clear that it ends in anything as simple as triumph. Magnus Lindberg, meanwhile, says that his new piano concerto is really ”three concertos in one piece”. But there’s only one Olli Mustonen and today he brings a composer’s insight to Lindberg’s biggest work yet.
